Coskun Bayrak, PhD
Professor and Chairperson
Biography: Dr. Coskun Bayrak is currently chairperson and professor of computer science and information systems at youngtown state university (ysu. Prior to joining ysu, he was a professor and program director of graduate programs (ms and phd) at the university of arkansas – little rock (august 2000-july 2017); associate professor in computer science at troy state university (1997-2000); assistant professor in computer science at benedict college, colombia, sc, and lecturer at the university of Texas at Dallas.
Abdurahman Arslanyilmaz, PhD
Biography: Dr. Arslanyilnaz teaches courses related to Multimedia, E-Commerce, Client-Side and Server-Side Programming, and Databases. His research focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of simulations, games, learning systems, and training applications incorporating game and artificial intelligence theories
Robert A. Gilliland
Biography: Mr. Gilliland is a lecturer in the Computer Science and Information Systems Department. After assuming several roles in the industry, he started his teaching career as an adjunct faculty and remained in that position for thirteen years. In 2013, he became a full-time instructor. After four years as an instructor, in 2017, he became a full-time lecturer. He has a passion for teaching.
Robert Kramer, PhD
Biography: Dr. Kramer is an associate professor in computer science and information systems. He is a member of ACM and currently involved in the acm international collegiate programming contest, where he has served at different roles: contestant, 1985-1986; world finalist, 1987; coach, 1998-2005; ysu site director, 2006-2012; east central na regional director, 2013-present.
Aliza Lazar, PhD
Biography: Dr. Alina Lazar is a professor in the department of computer science and information systems at Youngstown State University. Her research interests lie at the intersection between machine learning and data mining. Lately, she has been working on applying machine learning algorithms to software engineering related datasets and other scientific datasets. She is also interested in adapting learning algorithms to scale well in order to deal with large real data sets.
Kriss Schuller, PhD
Biography: Dr. Kriss Schueller is a professor in Computer Science and Information Systems. Born in 1959, raised in the Youngstown area. Started at YSU in 1987, married in 1988 to Janet, two daughters. Dr. Schueller chaired the computer science and information systems department from 1993-2000 and 2011-2017.
John R. Sullins, PhD
Biography: Dr. Sullins is an associate professor in Computer science and Information systems. He has taught courses in a variety of areas at YSU, including Artificial Intelligence, Web Design, Object-Oriented Programming, Encryption, and Game Design. He has also contributed to the creation of the Master’s program in Computing and Information Systems, and administered it for its first years.
Feng "George" Yu, PhD
Biography: Dr. Feng “George” Yu is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at Youngstown State University, Youngstown, OH, where he founded a research lab called Data Lab devoted to the research of Data-Oriented Sciences. Dr. Yu’s major research interests include databases, big data, and cloud computing.
Yong Zhang, PhD
Biography: Dr. Zhang is an associate professor in Computer Science and Information systems Department. His research focus is in the intersection of Computer Vision, Image Processing, Pattern Recognition and AI. He has significant number of scholarly articles published in these fields. His most recent focus is on the following research areas: (i) Recognition of face images and sketches (ii) Medical imaging of soft tissue as applied to burn patient treatment and surgery assessment; (iii) Ensemble learning methods as applied to object detection and motion tracking.
